Mom: Oh, thank you.
Me: You want some booze in that?
Mom: Mm... No. Fine like this... *gruff voice* Fine like this.
Me: *Hysterical laughter*

So on Saturdays we usually meet up with Grandma and go out for lunch and then go hit up thrift stores. I usually mostly look at the glassware and weird knick-knacks, but I rarely buy anything. I did get something this week, though. Recently I've been looking at owl-themed knick-knacks, so Jess often brings me anything owl related that she finds. This weekend she handed me this:

A grubby looking little yellow plastic owl who's expression seems to be somewhere in between intoxication and mental deficiency. I was so dumbfounded by the ridiculousness of it that I carried him around with me while we were in the store, and it made me giggle every time I looked at it. Then when I showed him to Grandma and she responded with "Well, it's a little hootie-owl!" I couldn't stop laughing. (She can never just say "owl" it's always "hootie-owl" or at least "hoot-owl." I freaking love my Grandma. She makes me lol.) That sealed it. I had to get him. He was only a dollar, anyway, and I'd already gotten at least a dollar's worth of amusement out of it just walking around the store. But then when I got up to the counter, Grandma went ahead and bought him for me, so I didn't even have to spend any money on him. I continued to laugh over my hootie-owl for the rest of the day. Even though I left him in the car for the remainder of our outing, I kept laughing just thinking about him. Jess didn't help. She kept coming up behind me and leaning in right by my head and saying "hoot" at me, and it would set me off into another bout of maniacal laughter. Hootie-owl ftw.

On another note, I finally managed to get a bit more writing done on chapter 4 of my fanfic. It's like 75% finished. I haven't been a (fan)fiction writer for very long, but I think it's safe to say I've been experiencing a severe round of writer's block. Actually it's been a pretty solid block on creativity all together. It's driving me nuts. Maybe if I can just get myself to keep plugging away at my 'fic, I'll be able to break through it. XP

Some Watchmen Insanity.

It's hard for me to pinpoint exactly when this started. Some time after the release of the Watchmen movie. I specifically avoided reading the graphic novel before seeing the movie because I have a tendency to detest movies if I am already a fan of the source material. I hate paying money to see a movie and then hating it, so I try to go into them as fresh as possible. Then I'll be able to enjoy the movie, and I can go back and still be able to enjoy the source material. But anyway, it started some time after the release of the Watchmen movie, and has since snowballed completely out of control. I found myself impersonating Rorschach on occasion when I was e-mailing Jess from work (for example, something simple like "Out of milk, Daniel. Finished it off with breakfast this morning."), and then Jess and Holly started in on it, too, so we'd text/message/e-mail one another every now and then, impersonating Rorschach, calling each other "Daniel" and stuff. Then one day I saw this fanart and I was like "HOLY CRAP! Chick-Dan is ME!!" That connection was later boosted one day when I was standing around at work in the bank zoning out and daydreaming about being a super hero. I was suddenly struck again by the similarities between myself and Daniel Dreiberg, so I e-mailed Jess and told her that I thought I was turning into "Fat-Batman."

The entire situation escalated during my vacation in California when we were hanging out with Holly and Ellen in Shannon's house, and Ellen started texting me as Rorschach. One thing lead to another and we ended up having a Watchmen TEXTravaganza that carried on for several days. I did my best to transcribe the texts from my phone. I put them essentially in the order in which they were sent and received, so the conversation isn't exactly smooth and continuous, but it shouldn't be too hard to follow. I meant to post this shortly after we returned from our vacation, but it took me a long time to get around to transcribing all the texts. x_x;

Nite Owl/Dan - Me
Rorschach - Ellen
Ozimandias/Adrian - Holly
Mothman/Byron - Jess

Little 500 Weekend

I haven't posted in my journal in over a month. Weee~ Lots of stuff, but I'll start with the most recent for now, since it's freshest on my mind. It's Little 500 weekend here in Bloomington. The weekend our little city is probably best known for. Even though it seems most of the out-of-town college students don't know what the hell the Little 500 is. They just use any excuse to throw loud and obnoxious parties, and this is traditionally the loudest and most obnoxious party weekend. There's nothing like hearing a gaggle of ditzy sorority girls twittering about how DRUNK they're going to get and then belatedly musing "What is Little 5, anyway? What are we celebrating?" to make me cringe and think "Get the hell outta' my town." Yes, this is the weekend when we townies lock ourselves in our houses, hoping our vehicles and property won't be vandalized by the raucous party-goers, and watch "Breaking Away."

I'll be honest, I only actually watched the movie for the first time this year. I knew about the movie and I'd seen bits of it on TV, but I'd never managed to actually catch the movie at the beginning and watch it all the way through. This year I decided that 25 years was long enough. I couldn't live with that shame any longer, so I bought the DVD and watched it last night. It's such a cute movie, and it was FREAKY to be watching a movie and being like "I've been there!" "I see that every day on my way to work!" "Dad used to take us fishing around there!" and so on and so forth. I think I'll make an effort to watch it every year on Little 500 weekend in the future. I recommend it to others, as well. Even if you've never been to or heard of Bloomington, IN, it's still a fun movie. Besides, it has Jackie Earl Haley and Dennis Quaid in it, and they're SO YOUNG AND ADORABLE! What more reason do you need to watch it?

Anyway, the men's race was today. Cutters won. W00T! Score for the townies! BAHAHAHAHAHAA!! XD

Can't wait until the semester is over and all the students leave for the summer. Then I'll be able to park down town again. I hate having to drive around for half an hour to find a parking spot just so I can go to the flippin' comic book store. All these idiots trying to drive around campus, going the wrong way on one-way streets 'cause they don't know how the roads work around here. GAH! GET OUT! TAKE YOUR FREAKING DIPLOMAS AND GET THE HELL OUT OF MY TOWN!!! DX

Death Note!

On Wednesday the 21st, Jess and I wen to see the live action Death Note movie! We walked to the theater and bought the tickets on Sunday ‘cause we were worried it might be sold out. But they didn’t, and we didn’t have any trouble getting in. There weren’t many good seats left when we got there, though. We had to sit almost in the very front row. Anyway, I enjoyed it even though I’d already seen it. For some reason I expected them to show the second part as well, but they didn’t, so I still have yet to see it. u_u Jess has it on her computer, though, so maybe we’ll get a chance to watch it some time soon. X3

Long story short: Death Note = WIN. I highly recommend it. ^_^

WEDDING! and some stuff

So some stuff happened. I’ll start with the bad stuff, so I can end on a positive note.

We got a call last night and found out that Crazy Steve died. I’ve never talked about Crazy Steve in any of my previous journal entries ‘cause I’ve hardly seen him for the past 10 years or so, but he used to live with us around my late grade school/junior high years. Mom rented the room upstairs to him. He was a trucker, though, so he wasn’t home most of the time. Over all he was a nice guy, and he meant well, but he had a lot of problems. He drank a lot, and he was on A LOT of prescription medication from several different doctors. Life wasn’t terribly kind to him. He had been a genuine doorstep-baby. I mean he was actually left on a doorstep when he was a baby, and then grew up in a catholic orphanage. Most recently he had been staying with Layla’s mom until she finally had to kick him out because of his drinking, and he had gone to Wisconsin because he’d gotten a new job with a trucking company out there. Apparently he just keeled over a couple of days after he arrived there. Our nearest guess is that he died of liver failure or possibly a heart attack. His is a sad and tragic tale. I hope he’s happier where he is now than he was here on Earth.

In brighter news, Autumn’s wedding reception was yesterday, and that was extremely fun. I’m so happy for Autumn and Dan! They’ve been together so long, it exciting that they’re finally married! Autumn looked great in her dress. I’m glad she was able to find someone to make it for her. It turned out great! I snapped a couple pics of her and Dan from the reception, and a video of them cutting their cake. It was great. X3

And in case anyone is curious, here’s the design pic for Autumn’s dress so you can compare and see how nicely it turned out. (It’s the design on the top)

If you want to congratulate Autumn and Dan on their wedding, you can drop a comment on Autumn’s Livejournal or Autumn’s Gaia Profile X3 ~ <3

I hope Autumn doesn’t mind me posting these in my journal. >_>; Autumn, if you read this, I’ll take ‘em down if you don’t like it. ^_^;; I just wanted to share your happy day with people. X3 ~ <3

Before I get started, let me just say that I’m not trying to copy Ellen-sama with the ninja thing. ^_^;; It’s actually a completely unrelated story. (It’s amazing though how Ellen’s and my interests seem to go through so many parallels even when we fall out of contact for long periods of time. X3 )

So there is this little boy I babysit sometimes. His parents are long time family friends of ours, so we’ve known him all of his short life. (He’s 4 now. He’ll be 5 in February) He’s very smart. You could carry on intelligent conversations with him when he was as young as 2. Also, he is fully convinced that I am a real ninja. He apparently talks about me at school and refers to me as “my friend Amy the Ninja.” (or “Inja” as he sometimes pronounces it) It started back when his parents jokingly told him that Jess and I were junior ninjas, because we’ve both been studying martial arts for the past 5 years or so. Then, on Halloween ‘06 I dressed as a ninja (I have a picture somewhere. I’ll scan it and post it whenever I find it.) and he came over to trick-or-treat us. So there I was in full costume, completely covered except for my eyes and armed to the teeth with shuriken and a real sword, and he just walks up to me and wraps his arms around my knees and says “Amy...are you a inja?”

I am weak from his cuteness.

I’m not even sure how he recognized me, but he did with no trouble. Since then he’s been completely convinced that I’m a real ninja. We were babysitting him a few days after Christmas, and I let him go in my room and pick out some of my action figures to play with, and we were up there for like an hour. ^_^; Here is a snippet of our conversation:

Ivan: *hands me an unopened Transformer box* “Do you have a knife?”
Me: “Of course. What self-respecting ninja wouldn’t carry a knife?” *Pulls out pocket knife & starts opening the box.*
Ivan: “Cool! Um...Amy? What would you do if another BAD ninja attacked?”
Me: “Well...I guess I’d just have to beat ‘em.”
Ivan: “Beat ‘em up?”
Me: *shrug* “If that’s what it takes”
Ivan: “‘Cause that’s what it takes to be a ninja!”
Me: *chuckle*
Ivan: “You’re the coolest, Amy the Ninja.”
Me: “Thank you Ivan.”
Ivan: “I like your room. It’s the coolest! I’m never going downstairs again!”

And so on and so fourth. There’s nothing that simultaneously melts your heart and boosts your self-esteem quite like an insanely adorable little boy who thinks that you’re the height of cool. His mom has some pics of him up on her myspace page. If I ever have a kid, I hope it turns our like Ivan. X3 ~ <3 <3
